Bard Spells 5e (5th Edition) for DND
There are only a few spells in 5th edition that are unique to a bard or have a storyteller or musician flavor. The bard’s spellcasting ability lacks much originality, except for vicious mockery. Rd gives you the ability to steal spells from wizards; while that will be interesting, if there’s already a wizard in your party, it doesn’t add much to spicing up encounters in interesting ways. A bard with access to all skills, expertise, full casting, and a good set of proficiencies can fill any role within the party. A Lore Bard is more like the traditional supportive Bard, with improved magical options and support abilities, whereas a Valor Bard can be a decent melee character with spellcasting and support abilities.

Bard Class Features
- Casting class with a Hit Point total of d8 is impressive, but unless you choose Valor to boost your AC, you won’t be able to rush into melee all the time.
- Saves: Dexterity is great for avoiding fireballs, but most spells that involve Reflex saves won’t outright disable you, and Charisma saves are extremely rare.
- Despite light armor and a few weapons, Bards rely solely on their spells and special abilities to get by. The three skills you choose expose you to tons of really great choices.
- Spellcasting: the bard can cast spells supported by their Charisma, much like a Cleric or Wizard. As a Bard, your abilities are restricted to the spells you know, almost like a Sorcerer. As you gain levels, you’ll replace one spell known every level, so don’t worry if you choose a spell at a coffee level that is no longer helpful.
